The 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Marathon is a German-themed marathon that prides itself on being modestly priced and providing friendly and thorough support to runners.

Runners follow tracks alongside Pennypack Creek within the limits of Philadelphia's Pennypack Park. The traffic-free course is sometimes described as a "rollercoaster", the midsection of the course featuring a bunch of short but steep rolling hills along with a trail section.
